Sikhs reiterate calls for Amritsar 1984 independent inquiry
Sikhs from across the Midlands marched through London today to remember those killed during raids at a holy site in India in 1984, reiterating their calls for an independent inquiry into the British government's role.
Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi sent the army into the Golden Temple in Amritsar, Sikhism's holiest shrine, to remove Sikh 'separatists'.

Last year, the-then Foreign Secretary William Hague said that, under Margaret Thatcher, a single British military adviser travelled to India and told the Indian intelligence service that a military operation should only be put into place as a last resort, adding that British military advice had 'limited impact'.
