A shopper has found the nest of a venomous black widow spider inside a bunch of grapes bought at a supermarket in Leamington.

The family who made the purchase at Asda, Leamington Spa, on Tuesday, only discovered the spiders when they went to eat the grapes and noticed something crawling inside the bag.

It emerged that the creepy crawly was a deadly black widow spider which had come all the way from Mexico. The spider had also just given birth.

The Warwickshire Wildlife Sanctuary, based in Nuneaton, was called to help deal with the find by police. The sanctuary took the spiders in until they were picked up by a specialist firm yesterday.

Geoff Grewcock, from the Warwickshire Wildlife Sanctuary was called to help to deal with the find. He said that black widow spiders, which are found on every continent except Antartica, - can be “very venomous”.
