Police say a man who suffered multiple stab wounds when a group of young men attacked him in Birmingham is "lucky to be alive".

The assault happened in an alleyway off Crabtree Drive in Chelmsley Wood on Saturday 25 April after an earlier confrontation between the group and the victim.

The 22-year-old was treated in intensive care in hospital for several days and is now recovering at home.

Police said they believed the local community must know who was responsible and have appealed for witnesses to contact the Violent Crime Team at Chelmsley Wood by dialling 101.
