Still no leads in Alan Wood murder investigation
A US network has approached detectives about making a documentary about the horrific murder of Alan Wood.
Mr Wood's body was at his home in the tiny village of Lound near Bourne in 2009.
Details of how Alan Wood was tortured and mutilated were later revealed by police and a year after his murder, three men were arrested but they were never charged.
In 2012, the police set up a dedicated website to try to solve the case but there have yet to be any concrete leads.
What happened?:
On Saturday October 24, Alan Wood - a gardener - was found dead in his home by a neighbour.
Police think that Alan was disturbed at home on Thursday. It is thought the 50-year-old was in bed reading when something made him go to the front door.
Police say that from the moment he opened the front door, Alan was subjected to savage torture and mutiliation.
Officers say his hands were bound with sellotape and he was stabbed repeatedly in the head. Detectives think these wounds were inflicted to torture Alan - possibly to give up his bank card pin numbers. Alan's throat was then cut, which killed him.
Detectives say that the most disturbing element of the attack came after Alan had died. A deep wound at the back of his neck suggested an attempted decapitation.
The evidence:
- Footprints from Converse trainers were found at the scene.
- Nobody knows how many people killed Alan, but one of the offenders left blood at the scene. Scientists presented police with a full male DNA profile, but it did not match with anything on international police databases.
- Small fragments of paper were found embedded in the sellotape that had been used to bind Alan's hands together. The paper was from a Delaine local bus ticket. It is not thought that the ticket was Alan's.
- Alan's bank cards were used in Bourne and Stamford a couple of days after he had been murdered. A trawl of CCTV around banks in those towns revealed the prime suspect, whom police have named 'ATM man'.He is thought to be between 5ft 9in and 5ft 11in tall.
Sainsbury's - who had been employing Alan at the time of his death - have put up a reward of £50,000 for anybody who can provide information which would lead to the arrest of Alan's killers.
About Alan:
Alan loved photography and had a passion for motorbikes.
He was a regular at the The Willoughby Arms in Little Bytham, and enjoyed listening to live music and going to festivals.
