Woman spends thousands on rubber duck collection
A woman says she has spent thousands of pounds making a collection of rubber ducks, after thinking they 'would look nice in the bathroom'.
Rinat Matityahu, who is originally from Israel but now lives in Cold Ashby, Northamptonshire, shares her home with her husband, three-year-old-daughter, two cats... and more than 3,000 rubber ducks.
The 37-year-old started her collection when she first moved to the UK nine years ago, after buying Cancer Research rubber ducks from a shop she walked past in London. "I simply thought they would look nice in the bathroom."
She now spends hours searching through eBay in order to add to her collection and has now acquired ducks from all over the world.
The IT worker claims that German eBay is a great source and she has even had seven ducks posted from Australia. She said: "The postage really adds up when you're getting ducks sent from around the world."
The most she has ever paid for a duck is £85 for a rare Cancer Research edition, but her favourite is one that she acquired from the St. Pancras hotel.
Her mother has now started up her own collection made up of Rinat's duplicates.
Rinat even managed to incorporate them into her wedding, by leaving bride and groom ducks for the guests in their hotel rooms.
But despite her mass collection of rubber ducks, Rinat said she has not had chance to enjoy a relaxing bath in the three years since her daughter was born, now choosing a shower instead.
