Amber Valley is one of the closest marginal seats in the East Midlands. It is in the east of Derbyshire, north of Derby.

Nigel Mills won the seat from Labour for the Conservative party in the 2010 election by a majority of 536 on a turnout of 65.49%.

The seat is split between urban areas which tend to favour Labour and rural areas which lean towards the Conservatives.
