Unusual April 1st 'stories' include stadium's garden roof and Midlands Hyperway
On April 1st, a number of unusual 'stories' have emerged across the Midlands, with many wondering - are they just unlikely or are they untrue?
Ricoh Arena's garden roof
Wasps Rugby Club have written on their website that they have announced plans to build a retractable garden roof onto their stadium, the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.
The club says work to build the 'Goof', as they are calling it, will begin on 11 May, and will be completed by the start of next season's Premiership fixtures in October.
The club say on their website that the Goof "will be open on Wasps match days providing a flourishing garden to visitors to the Ricoh Arena. The Goof will comprise of a large grass area with wild flowers, plants and small trees unique to Coventry’s natural habitat."
"A line of ash trees will also be planted on the West and East stands. A reinforced 12m2 window in the centre of the Goof will allow Wasps to offer a first of its kind sports hospitality experience where fans will be able to watch Wasps matches from 100ft directly above the game."
H6 Hyperway to replace Midlands motorways
This morning, h6hyperway.com emerged claiming Europe's first one-way, eight-lane Hyperway was being launched in the Midlands, replacing the existing motorway network around Birmingham.
They say the H6 will replace the M6, M42 and M5, and will orbit the West Midlands in a clockwise direction.
It's claimed the 60-mile route will be opened in two phases, with the one-way system coming into force in January next year.
The website says the "scheme follows the success of a similar project in Tokyo, which launched in 2006."
King Richard University in Leicester
According to the Independent newspaper, the University of Leicester is to be renamed the King Richard University, to build on the popularity of the last Plantagenet king whose remains were reinterred last week.
The paper says the university's senate will debate proposals on the name change next month, in order for it to come to reality by September 2016.
It also adds that institutions at the university will be similarly renamed, using examples such as the campus bar's future name - Carnage@Bosworth, and the Fielding Johnson Building being renamed Hunchback House.
The paper says the university "declined to provide an official statement".
The UK's first 'Cog' imported from China
At one minute past midnight this morning, the Derbyshire Times reported that a woman from Chesterfield had imported the UK's first cat/dog hybrid - a 'Cog'.
According to the website, the new species was developed by scientists in a laboratory in Beijing back in 2013, but the law banning them in Britain was overturned last month.
It's claimed 'Avril Fuller' bought Fluffy the 'cog' for £10,000. She is quoted as saying it exhibits the best of both species.
#CarlsbergDrone delivers beer to your house
Carlsberg has announced it has come up with the first drone-operated delivery service for dropping beer to people's houses - and the Northampton Chronicle said the company was trialling the system in the East Midlands town.
On YouTube, the company claims it can now deliver beer to your doorstep in under 30 minutes.
The Chronicle said that the beer-maker had not yet revealed the cost of the project, or how many future jobs it would create.
