  • 07/09/2012 - Archaeologists searching for the grave of King Richard III uncover evidence of a lost memorial garden.

  • 12/09/2012 - Archeologists believe they have found the remains of King Richard III.

  • 04/02/2013 - A skeleton found beneath a car park in Leicester is confirmed to be that of King Richard III. DNA from the bones match those of relatives of the King.

  • 25/02/2013 - Richard was from the House of York and people in that city want him back. The demand for his return to York grows and backed by relatives of the King who set up a petition which attracts 23,000 signatures.

  • 26/02/2013 - Leicester makes a bid to become UK City of Culture in 2017. The discovery of Richard III's remains fuel the city's ambitions.

  • 16/08/2013 - A group of relatives of King Richard win the right to challenge plans to rebury his remains in Leicester. A High Court judge gives permission to the Plantagenet Alliance to challenge the proposals. It wants the remains to be buried in York.

  • 20/11/2013 - Leicester fails in its bid to become UK City of Culture in 2017, losing out to Hull.

  • 13/03/2014 - The long awaited judicial review to decide the fate of King Richard's remains gets underway at the High Court.

  • 23/05/2014 - After weeks of legal wrangling it is confirmed the remains of King Richard will be reburied at Leicester Cathedral.

  • 16/06/2014 - The final design for the tomb of King Richard is unveiled at Leicester Cathedral.

  • 07/08/2014 - Date set for King Richard's reburial at Leicester Cathedral.

  • 02/03/2015 - A coffin buried just a few feet from King Richard III's grave in a Leicester car park is opened. Archaeologists reveals it is the skeleton of an elderly woman. They think the woman died about a hundred years before Richard and was a prominent person in the friary.
