Traffic restrictions will be in place from 6:00 this morning until 18:00 tonight, and hundreds of police on the streets, as more than a thousand members of the English Defence League take to the streets of Dudley.

Roads affected include:

  • Castle Gate island at Castle Hill

  • Hall Street

  • Flood Street

  • King Street at New Mill Street

  • Ednam Road

  • Priory Road at the islands with The Broadway

  • Paganel Drive.

Members of the EDL will be gathering at the Rock Zombie bar on Hall Street before making their way to the council house on Priory Street for a demonstration at 14:00. The counter-demonstration will be held in Castle Street.

They are demonstrating against plans for a new mosque in the town.

Traffic restrictions will be in place along the route from the bar to the council house and police officers will be wearing distinctive blue uniforms.

They are assuring the public they have enough officers in place to cope with a demonstration of any size.
