Demonstrators to gather over proposed cuts to Lincolnshire fire service
Demonstrators will gather in Lincoln this morning to protest against proposed cuts to the city's local fire service.
Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service is planning around £1.3 million worth of cuts to its service, which locals say will impact on safety.
The demonstration has been organised by the local 'Defend Lincoln Fire Services' group and will be supported by local firefighters who are members of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU).
Protesters will gather in Lincoln's St Martins Square, before marching to Speakers' Corner on Lincoln High Street.
A public consultation about the proposed cuts ends on 6 February.
The FBU's brigade secretary for Lincolnshire, Dan Taylor, said he is enormously grateful to the 'Defend Lincoln Fire Services' group for organising the demonstration.
