East Midlands - UK earthquake hot spot

The East Midlands has seen more earthquakes in the last decade than any other English region.

It follows last night's 3.8 quake, with the epicentre in Cottesmore in Rutland.

Major East Midlands earthquakes in the last 10 years:

1. Lincolnshire - 27th of February 2008 - 5.2 - epicentre: Market Rasen.This was one of the largest earthquakes in recorded history in the British Isles, and was felt across wide areas of the country. It caused significant property damage in parts of the East Midlands and Yorkshire.

2. Herefordshire - 26th October 2008 - 3.6 - epicentre: Bromyard.The effects were also felt across parts of the East Midlands.

3. Leicestershire - 18th January 2013 - 3.2 - epicentre: Loughborough.

4. Rutland - 17th/18th of April 2014 - 3.2 and 3.5 - epicentre: Oakham.Two earthquakes within 24 hours of each other caused minor damage across the East Midlands.

5. Nottinghamshire - 14th of October 2014 - 1.7 - epicentre: Newark-on-Trent.

6. Nottinghamshire - 28th of October 2014 - 2.6 - epicentre: Hucknall

7. Rutland - 28th of January 2015 - 3.8 - epicentre: Cottesmore.
