Player profile: Leicester City striker Andrej Kramaric
Andrej Kramaric has joined Leicester City after turning down Premier League leaders Chelsea, here's what to expect.
A product of the Dinamo Zagreb academy, the 23-year-old Rijeka frontman has always been prolific since his youth career in the Croatian capital.
Despite his great feats during his time in the academy at Zagreb, Kramaric didn’t get chance to prove himself in the first-team, managing ten goals in 42 appearances, before leaving for Rijeka.
Kramaric hit the ground running at Rijeka, netting 37 league goals in just 44 games and also was a driving force in their Croatian cup success.
A fearless competitor, Kramaric is a complete striker who is quick and a natural with the ball at his feet.
A composed dribbler with great control and ability to take on defenders in tight spaces.
It was expected that the striker would have been immediately loaned out to feeder club Vitesse Arnhem upon completing a deal with Chelsea, something the owner of former side Dinamo Zagreb Zdravko Mamic was been highly critical of.
“Chelsea have no interest in Kramaric as a player, but as a potential investment or gift to a sports friend,” Mamic recently explained.
"Using the influence of Chelsea, Abramovich entertains his friends.
"If this transfer is realised, it will be football murder for Kramaric, he doesn’t deserve it.
"In addition, it would be the most embarrassing move in the history of the football club Rijeka."
As his recent scoring record shows, Kramaric is composed in front of goal, keeping calm in one-on-one situations.
From the penalty spot he is almost a certainty to score, being able to pick out the corner with superb precision, giving the keeper no chance with regularity.
Kramaric has great anticipation and movement in and around the area, with a tendency to get across defenders to find pockets of space to get shots away.
Most of his brief career has been spent playing as a lone striker, something that Chelsea noted, considering Jose Mourinho’s preferred style of play.
His qualities haven’t gone unnoticed at international level, where he was four caps for Croatia and already has two goals to his name.
