Bosses at the Peterborough and Stamford NHS Trust have declared a 'major incident' as A&E departments come under increasing pressure.

They say the measure has been put in place after a weekend of high levels of emergency admissions and fewer patients being discharged, either because they aren't well enough or they are waiting for further care arrangements to be made.

The Trust say the measure means hospitals prioritise care for emergency patients, which means some operations may be cancelled.

The Peterborough and Stamford NHS Trust runs both Stamford and Rutland Hospital and Peterborough City Hospital.
