Dad fights for life in hospital after savage brick attack
A vicious brick attack has left a Birmingham father of five battling for his life in hospital.
Mahmoud Hussein had popped out to visit a chemists when he was targeted by a thug outside shops in Stud Lane on December 20.
The Land Rover worker is in a coma, and his distraught wife, Eman Tahaineh, has been waiting by his bedside at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for almost two weeks.
Mr Hussein had moved to Birmingham from war-torn Palestine eight years ago in the hopes of securing a safer future for his family.
Police are yet to make any arrests over the attack.
Mr Hussein's brother-in-law says he had no enemies but that he had recently reported concerns over anti-social behaviour and drug taking near his home.
The assault left Mr Hussein - a Maths graduate - with a head injury, a fractured jaw, a fracture above his right eye and a serious injury to his knee.
He underwent brain surgery four days ago and is now in a critical care unit, where his condition is stable. Doctors have told his family that they cannot say when he will wake up from his coma.
Mr Hussein's brother-in-law Nadel, 48 and from Handsworth, suspects a group of men seen taking drugs at the block where the family lives were behind the attack.
Detective Inspector Nick Dale believes people in the neighbourhood know who is responsible. Officers want to speak to a white man in his early 20s who was wearing a blue coat.
