Parents are being warned about potentially fatal Christmas-themed children's hats that are thought to pose a strangulation risk.

Trading Standards seized eight of the furry-material hats from a shop in Mapperley in Nottinghamshire.

They have a stuffed toy head of either a Santa, a reindeer or a snowman with ties that could form a noose, which makes them potentially dangerous.

A similar seizure was made last December, but the hats did not have a Christmas theme.

The trader has been told not to sell similar items in the future, local markets have been warned to look out for the items.

People who see similar hats for sale are being encouraging to report the retailer to the Citizen’s Advice consumer service on 03454 04 05 06.
