Will Hereford United's long-running saga ever end?

ITV News Central's James Clark has followed Hereford United's long-running saga and gives his thoughts on another dark period:

Yesterday was another very dark day for Hereford United. After months of uncertainty I'm sure many officials and fans didn't want to hear the news that the Football Association had banned them "from all football activity" with immediate effect.

But a day later, it's a different picture. The FA has now lifted the ban with immediate effect.

I was reporting down at Edgar Street in the summer when the club was booted out of the Football Conference for failing to pay its debts. One thing that certainly stood out to me was how much the club means to the fans. Hereford United is a club with real community support.

If I'm honest, it hasn't been pretty at Edgar Street ever since. After being expelled from the Football Conference they began life in the Southern Premier League.

The fans have also had to put up with endless winding up petitions in the High Court over its debts - nine times in fact.

The reason why the action was taken yesterday against the club and their majority shareholder and officer, Alan McCarthy, was because they failed to provide further requested documents under the Owners and Directors Test Regulations on Monday. However, the club and Mr McCarthy have now complied with the orders of the Independent Regulatory Commission, the FA have said.

Many will feel for the fans. They want one thing. And that's Hereford United back to as it was.

Things continue to remain uncertain, but at least they can now play football.
