Mother joins road safety campaign after daughter killed by lorry driver using mobile at wheel
A mother whose daughter was killed by a lorry driver who was using his mobile phone has joined a road safety campaign to tackle phone use at the wheel.
Lisa Thomas's daughter Laura, who was 20, was waiting by a broken down car on the A5 in Shropshire when it was ploughed into by haulier Ian Glover's lorry.
The car flew over a safety barrier, hitting Laura, and seriously injuring her fiancee Lewis Pagett.
44-year-old Glover, from Birmingham, was jailed for five years earlier this year after admitting dangerous driving.
He had been browsing pornographic dating websites at the time of the crash on 21 July 2013.
Mrs Thomas, from Great Haywood near Stafford, is now backing a two-week campaign by the Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG) which starts next Friday.
They will be looking for motorists using their mobiles for calls, texting and using the internet.
