Police warning after young girl followed by van driver

Police are warning parents & children after a young girl was followed & repeatedly asked by a van driver to get into his vehicle.

The 12-year-old was walking along London Road in Daventry at about 2.30pm on Thursday, July 10, when a white van passed her and the driver waved.

He stopped and asked her if she wanted a lift, but she declined and walked away.

However the driver, who police describe as white and in his 50s or 60s about 5ft 8in and skinny, kept following the girl as she walked away, pulling up next to her and encouraging her to have a lift with him.

He had wavy light grey hair, tanned skin and blue or grey eyes. He was wearing a navy blue zip up jacket, worn-out blue jeans and a black beanie hat.

His van was white and was either a Fiat Doblo or a Vauxhall Astra van.

Parents and children in the area are being reminded by Northamptonshire police to walk or cycle to school or college with friends – take a bright, open route, avoiding alleyways or dark roads and look out for safe places where they can go to for help or shelter.

Witnesses, or anyone with any information about the incident in Daventry, can call Northamptonshire Police on 101.
