A search is underway after a large £100,000 diamond went missing in Birmingham's Cannon Hill Park in 1974.

The four-carat stone fell from the Lord Mayor's civic chain as he attended a tulip festival in the park and hasn't been seen since.

The council has been quietly looking for the gem, which was the first diamond to be cut in Birmingham, ever since.

After nearly 40 years the council hopes that it can still be found with the help of the public. Anyone who finds the gem could be rewarded £20,000.

Current Lord Mayor Mike Leddy continues to hope the historic diamond will be found and has several theories as to what may have happened to the diamond.
