Gun amnesty to take place in Nottinghamshire
Police in Nottinghamshire are holding a fortnight long amnesty to appeal for the surrender of guns and ammunition. It's a decade since the last weapons amnesty took place in the county.
The force is calling for people, in possession of illegal guns and ammunition, to dispose of them at police stations taking part in the amnesty.
Detective Chief Inspector Mick Luke said gun crime has fallen since the last amnesty in 2004 but the force wants to reduce it even further.
The amnesty will take place between the 3rd and 17th of March. During that period, those surrendering firearms will not face prosecution for the illegal possession. They can also remain anonymous.
The history of each live weapon will be checked for evidence of its use in crimes.
