Mairead Philpott appeals sentence

An appeal by Mairead Philpott against her sentence for the manslaughter of six children during a house fire in Derby has got underway at Nottingham Crown Court.

Earlier this year Mairead Philpott, her husband Mick Philpott and their friend Paul Mosley were convicted of manslaughter for the fire in May 2012.

Duwayne, Jade, John, Jack, Jesse and Jayden died when the blaze swept through their home on Victory Road.

Following an eight week trial Mick Philpott was jailed for life with a minimum term of 15 years. Mairead Philpott and Paul Mosley were each sentenced to 17 years.

Today's Court of Appeal hearing is to be televised.
