Trent Bridge's Ashes history shows the 2013 series will begin in drama
Nottingham’s Trent Bridge will host the first Ashes Test tomorrow, with England favourites to win. But the record of the home side at Trent Bridge in Ashes Tests is not in their favour.
Of the 20 Ashes matches at the ground, England have won only four. Australia have taken seven, with nine draws. But England can take some consolation that the last Ashes Test played in Nottingham was a victory, in the famous 2005 series.
Australia’s last win at Trent Bridge saw them take an unassailable 3-0 series lead in the 2001 series, when they beat England by seven wickets on their way to a 4-1 overall win.
In the 20 Trent Bridge Ashes Tests, there have been 18,701 runs scored – including 1,952 boundaries – and exactly 600 wickets taken.
So as the two old rivals take their final practice sessions, if past records are to continue, the first Test of this year’s Ashes summer looks set to be an exciting one.
