Thousands of homes and businesses have faced power cuts in the Black Country over the past 24 hours because of a series of high voltage cable faults.

Western Power Distribution says last night 14,000 customers lost power for a time in a wide area around Dudley, Lye, and Stourbridge. This was due to five cable faults.

And this afternoon, there was another fault at Woodside near Merry Hill. This led to 3,154 customers losing power. Soon after this, there was an unconnected cable fault at nearby Hinksford, causing a further 1,583 homes and businesses to lose supplies for two minutes. All power has been restored.

Western Power Distribution says it does not believe the problems were related to cable theft.
