New Toyota car to safeguard jobs in Derbyshire

This is the new Toyota car being built at the company's Burnaston plant in Derbyshire from today.

The Auris Touring Sports is the first full hybrid estate vehicle in its class.

Industry experts believe it will be a good seller in Europe and safeguard jobs at Burnaston.

The firm is celebrating with a Start of Production Ceremony attended by the Secretary of State for Transport and Derbyshire MP Patrick McLoughlin.It is welcome news for the Japanese car giant which has had an embarrassing series of recalls in recent years.

The problems have affected millions of vehicles. Only yesterday, Toyota had to recall 5000 Prius cars in the UK because of faulty brakes.

Professor David Bailey says the car industry is doing well and exporting its way out of trouble.
