There are two types of the infection.

  • Bacterial Meningitis - caused by bacteria and spread through close contact. This type of meningitis is very serious and should be treated as an emergency.

What are the symptoms?

Babies and young children are often affected by meningitis although anyone of any age can contract the infection.

  • High fever with cold hands and feet

  • Feeling agitated

  • Crying continuously

  • Becoming very sleepy

  • Appear confused and unresponsive

  • Development of blotchy red rash

The best way to prevent meningitis is by ensuring your vaccinations are up-to-date.
