Beeston Hockey Club are hoping to set a national record today by attracting their largest crowd when the Men's 1st Xl team takes on local rivals Loughborough Students.

The East Midlands sides are among the best teams in the country and are made up of players who have represented Great Britain, England, Scotland and Wales.

Beeston are top of the English Premier Division - 12 points clear of second place Reading. Beeston have already beaten Loughborough this season when they won 5-3 away.

The club have billed the game as "Hockey Super Sunday" and are hoping to break the record attendance at a National League game which currently stands at 800.

They are hoping to build on the popularity the sport enjoyed at London 2012 and are trying to encourage families to their Highfields ground.

The game gets underway at 14.00, with a warm up match between Beeston and Loughborough Students 2nd teams in the Midlands Challenge League taking place at 12.00.
