Adlington to make 'major announcement'
Rebecca Adlington will today make a ‘major announcement’ at a press conference in London regarding the future of her career in swimming.
Adlington, raised in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, rose to fame when she took two gold medals in the 2008 Beijing Games, for which she was subsequently awarded an OBE in 2009.
Four years later, at the 2012 London Games, Rebecca won two medals – bronze this time – not gold like she'd won in China.
Following her performance in London, Adlington announced last September that she has not intentions of competing at the Rio Games in 2016.
Adlington’s roots are very much based in the Midlands; learning to swim at the age of four, Rebecca attended a club in the Sherwood Swimming Pool in Nottinghamshire.
