Man arrested following Walsall fire death

A man has died following a fire in Willenhall, many people were rescued from their homes and dozens evacuated.

The emergency services arrived at the scene at 2:15am to find maisonettes on fire, it is thought the blaze spread from a wheelie bin opposite the building.

A man who is yet to be identified, was found collapsed inside the building and pronounced dead at the scene.

Twenty minutes later another fire was reported in the area which also appeared to have been started in a bin, no one was injured but several people had to be rescued.

At 2.45am a third fire was spotted by officers on patrol in the area, bushes were alight but no one was injured.

Police investigating the series of fires later arrested a 20-year-old man on suspicion of committing arson with intent to endanger life.
