Media Trust and ITV News have joined forces to launch Breaking Into News 2012 - an initiative which is designed to discover new talent and to identify top broadcast journalists of the future.

Breaking Into News offers 18-25 year olds the opportunity to be mentored by experienced broadcast journalists from the ITV News network newsroom in writing, presenting and production skills.

It has expanded to cover nine regions, with a finalist selected from each.

Finalists will have the chance to develop their ideas and to turn them into a news report for their local ITV newsroom, with all nine to be presented before a judging panel including Stewart, Nightingale and executives from ITV News and Media Trust.

Each report will also be considered for inclusion on an ITV News platform. The winner will then be presented with an iPad to help with future projects and have the opportunity to spend the day with the team producing the ITV News at Ten.
