The inquest into the death of former Leicester British champion boxer Shaun Cummins took place today.

The body of the boxer who had not been seen for days was found by police who broke into his home on Marriott Road on the evening of 12 September.

Shaun Cummins, a former WBA light-middleweight champion nicknamed "The Guvnor", was initially identified from a photograph, followed by fingerprint ID, the cause of his death is still unknown.

Community nurses who cared for Mr Cummins raised their concerns with the police after they failed to contact him for days.

The 45-year-old retired from boxing in 1995 and was left paralysed after being involved in a motorcycle accident in 2004.

A 28-year-old man called Thomas Dunkley has been charged with Mr Cummins' murder, he is due to appear at Leicester Crown Court next week for a preliminary hearing.
