Campaign to increase First Aid awareness
According to St. John's Ambulance, the number of people dying each year in situations where knowledge of First Aid might have saved them is the same as the number dying from cancer.
In an attempt to reduce this figure, the charity are launching a Midlands-wide First Aid awareness campaign.
According to the charity, in the West Midlands less than one in seven people know basic life saving skills and less than one in five in the East.
Keith Hunter from St. John Ambulance said,
A short film aired last night during Downton Abbey showed the fatal consequences of a lack of First Aid knowledge, and the charity is publicising the figures above in an attempt to stir people into action.
Basic First Aid advice is available on the St John Ambulance website.
