Firefighters tackle blaze at Derbyshire recycling plant
Firefighters are working to prevent a fire from spreading at a Derbyshire recycling plant, after being called to the facility more than 12 hours ago.
Crews from Nottinghamshire have also been helping Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service to tackle the fire at the Lows Lane plant in Stanton-by-Dale near Ilkeston, which involves more than 7,000 tonnes of waste and wood.
It has resulted in a considerable amount of smoke, some of which has been blowing across the nearby M1 between junctions 25 and 26.
Drivers are being urged to take care and to keep their windows closed. The fire service is also warning those living near the plant to stay indoors and to keep all windows and doors closed until the smoke from the fire has disappeared.
The Salvation Army is also in attendance at the fire providing vital refreshment facilities to the Firefighters.
