A pregnant care worker has been kicked in the stomach as she tried to detain a woman sneaking into the Kingstanding residential home where she worked.

The care worker was kicked as she confronted the suspected burglar climbing through an open window on Warren Farm Road in the early hours of this morning (Thursday 6 September).

Police were called around 1.20am and arrested a 30-year-old woman who was being detained by staff.

It is believed the intruder was attempting to steal a handbag belonging to the home's manager.

While police have commended the care worker for her bravery they have warned the public to put their safety first:

The 3-months pregnant care worker was treated by medical staff at the scene but was not taken to hospital.
