Paralympic success runs in Whiley's family - her father Keith was a bronze medallist in the L3 100m at the 1984 New York Paralympic Games. It was her father who encouraged her to pursue wheelchair tennis and, despite being 20, she has been competing for the last six years. Aged 14, Whiley became Britain’s youngest women's Singles National Champion. Whiley has brittle bone disease.
