2008 saw Sophie Wells become the first Dressage rider to win a non-disabled international competition as she won the Hickstead under-21 international. She was also the first to compete in a disabled and non-disabled team in the same year in 2010. Wells was selected for the World Equestrian Games Dressage squad and went on to compete at the European Young Rider Championships in 2011. Wells was born with amniotic band syndrome.
