Police in Nottinghamshire say a campaign to stop car cruisers congregating at a retail park has been successful.

A court injunction was introduced in April to stop large numbers of drivers gathering to 'show off' their customised cars at Victoria Retail Park in Netherfield on Sunday evenings with groups also meeting during the week.

Over 200 vehicles had been known to gather at the retail park leading to scores of complaints of noise and anti-social behaviour to police and local authorities.

To tackle the problem police applied for an injunction to ban drivers and passengers from taking part in a 'car cruise' in an area stretching from Burton Joyce to Colwick.

Since the injunction was introduced there have been no calls to police about the problem.

DCI Andrew Hall of Nottinghamshire Police said:

The injunction will be in place until December 2014, which also prohibits drivers and their passengers from causing excessive noise, danger to road users or damage to property.

To enforce the injunction increased police patrols, CCTV monitoring and the use of automatic number plate recognition cameras will take place in the area.

Councillor Mick Murphy of Nottinghamshire County Council said the lives of people affected by the car cruising was blighted each day:
