The world's most expensive book is just one of a selection of rare works which will be moved to Birmingham's new library next year.

The Birds of America, by French American ornithologist John James Audubon, is worth £7.3 million and is more than three feet tall.

It contains life size illustrations of more than 400 North American birds.

Audubon created his masterpiece between 1827 and 1838, drawing the birds he loved after returning from the wilderness.

A copy ended up at Birmingham library after with was purchased when the author visited the city.

Other rare books in the library's collection include some of the world's oldest maps, medieval manuscripts and some of the first book's printed in the country.
