Rescue teams searching for a missing teenager at a quarry in Dudley have found a body.

West Midlands Police confirmed a young male was recovered from water in the quarry in Lower Gornal in Dudley just before 8:30pm on Wednesday.

The coroner has been informed and the teenager is yet to be formally identified.

The police and ambulance service were called at lunchtime on Wednesday after reports that a teenage boy had gone missing.

Police say it became apparent the boy had fallen in and the area around the quarry and the area was sealed off in order for a search to be made.

The fire service used a dinghy to search the water but a police spokesperson said it was challenging because of accessibility at the site and the poor visibility in the water.

Two teenagers have now died in water related accidents in the Midlands during the recent hot weather.

Danial McCullagh, who was 15, died in the River Nene near Kettering in Northamptonshire on Tuesday.

The emergency services are warning people to only swim in supervised areas.
