Bilborough man jailed for four years after he admitted killing his wife
A 56-year-old man has been sentenced to four years in prison after he admitted killing his wife at their Bilborough home on Christmas Day last year.
Police were called to the house on 25 December, where they found the body of Gillian Woodward.
A post mortem examination concluded that she had died from a stab wound.
Stephen Woodward had originally been charged with the murder of his wife at their home in Bosden Close.
However, on the first day of his scheduled trial at Nottingham Crown Court today Woodward admitted manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility after psychiatric reports concluded that he had been suffering from a depressive illness at the time of the incident.
