Midlands soldier dies in Afghanistan

The Ministry of Defence has named the three British soldiers killed while on patrol in Helmand province.

One of the dead soldiers was 44-year-old Warrant Officer Leonard Thomas was from Ross-on-Wye in Herefordshire.

He joined the Army in 1990 and served with the Coldstream Guards in Kuwait and Iraq.

This was his final operational tour. Warrant Officer Thomas leaves his mother, partner Rachel, and brother Tristan.
