A major route into Nottingham could be closed for days after a fire at a garage underneath a road bridge last night.

Nearly forty people had to be evacuated from their homes after the blaze in Lenton in Nottingham.

Nottinghamshire Police were called to the blaze at SPV garages in Hungerton Street just before midnight last night.

Residents were evacuated after fears there could be a number of gas cylinders inside the building, and were advised to leave by the emergency services.

A number of them are staying in a nursery school nearby.

Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue are providing twitter updates about the blaze.

The fire is causing travel disruption as it's next to railway lines and key road routes into the city centre.

Road closures are in place at Abbey Bridge, Castle Boulevard and Lenton Boulevard up to Stanton Street.

East Midlands Trains services from Nottingham to Alfreton are facing delays while the fire service continue to make the area safe.
