Plans to legalise gay marriages "happening too fast", says Bishop of Leicester

The Bishop of Leicester Rt Rev Tim Stevens says plans to legalise gay marriages are happening too fast and are not being thought through properly.

Currently same-sex couples can have a civil ceremony but the Government now wants to legalise gay marriage so that all couples are equal in the eyes of the state.

Some religious organisations are worried that the move will force them into conducting marriages, which may go against their beliefs.

Gay rights campaigners have accused the church of scare-mongering.
