As part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations the Princess Royal will be planting the first tree in a new wood in Leicestershire.

Diamond Wood is a 460 acre site based in Asbhy de la Zouch.

It is part of the Woodland Trust Jubilee Woods Project - a national project which aims to plant 6 million trees and create hundreds of new woodlands around the UK.

The site will be planted with native trees and organisers say it will stand as a living monument to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee.

The Trust is inviting everyone to join in the celebration at the woods today. More information on the event can be found on the Woodland Trust website.

The UK is one of the least wooded countries in Europe with just 13% woodland cover, compared to a European average of 44%.
