Aston Villa are expected to make an official approach for Norwich boss Paul Lambert, as they look to find a successor to the sacked Alex McLeish.

Lambert, who has guided Norwich to two successive promotions and established them in the Premier League last season, is the latest in a number of candidates being considered for the role.

Villa held talks with former Manchester United star Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who turned down the role citing family reasons. Villa have also spoken to advisors of Wigan boss Roberto Martinez, who had been approached a year ago to replace Gerard Houllier.
