Make the most of the rest of today because from tomorrow it will be unsettled until weekend.

Good temperatures today of 17c 63f, remnants of frontal showers clearing from the SE Midlands, but then rain pushes in from the SW tonight.

That new system will start in around midnight to 3am. Clear skies reign until then, when the lowest temperatures of the night will occur. Those will increase, as will the wind, with the influx of the cloud and rain.

Wednesday morning will generally be wet.

Some places may have odd drier interludes initially, but don't be fooled; if it’s dry where you are first thing tomorrow, you won’t get away with it all day!

Throughout the afternoon, a wave will invigorate the rain giving heavy downpours for all. Winds will increase and temperatures will dip compared to yesterday, only peaking around 12c 54f.

Thursday looks grim. Heavy, persistent rain; 20-30mm for parts of the region with maybe 50mm locally.

The ground will already be saturated, so problems with surface water and localised flooding are anticipated. Areas that have seen a lot of rain over the last few weeks will be especially prone.

‘Be Aware’ warning issued by the Met Office www.metoffice.gov.uk which may be extended beyond the period so we’ll keep an eye on it.

It will also turn windier, but more especially further south; gales along the south coast of England.

Unsettled until weekend. Saturday and Sunday, dry with night frosts. Credit: ITV Central

Friday is looking much more settled.

Always a fair amount of cloud around Friday and Saturday, but a widespread ground frost on Friday night, especially through the North Midlands. Gardeners beware – don’t put your summer bedding plants out just yet.

A fine weekend then, as a brief ridge of high pressure noses in.

Looks like we’re back to the unsettled climes next week.
