A £5.5 million project to save the historic reservoir at Chasewater Country Park in Staffordshire has been completed.

The 200-year-old dam was drained of water in 2010 because of concerns of severe flooding.

The project was started by Lichfield District Council but was taken over by Staffordshire County Council in May 2011 because of their experience of managing large-scale engineering projects.

In October last year the reservoir was refilled, and in February 2012 one hundred tonnes of concrete were pumped into the dam to help control the flow of water.

British Waterways is pumping water into the canal system from other sites and will continue to do this while the reservoir refills.

Staffordshire County Council say they hope Chasewater will be restored to its position as a key part of the Midlands Canal network.
