Winson Green murder trial delayed
The trial into the deaths of three men during last year's summer riots has been delayed because only two out of the eight defendants were brought to court this morning.
Seven men and one youth were due to go on trial in connection with the deaths of Haroon Jahan and brothers Shazad Ali and Abdul Musavir, who died after being struck by a car in Winson Green, Birmingham in August last year.
The trial was due to start today but the prison van company did not bring all the defendants to court.
The judge said that for a case of this magnitude that was unacceptable. He said the behaviour of those responsible was "grotesque." The judge has requested the regional manager of the company GEOAmey appear at court tomorrow. The trial is expected to get underway tomorrow. It is listed for 10 weeks.
