Boxing Gym

Following a £462,000investment from Derbyshire County Council, the first of half a dozen gyms willopen in Creswell, with the aim of helping young people stay out of trouble.

Creswell Youth Centre in Colliery Road has aboxing ring, punch bags and other fitness equipment.

Sessions are being offeredby volunteers, and will cover non-contact boxing skills and circuit training.

Up to 80 youngsters canattend two sessions a week, but it is hoped this could eventually extend tonightly sessions.

Youth unemployment (amongunder 25s) is high in Creswell - 11.5% compared with the Derbyshire rate of7.4% and the Englandrate of 6.4%.
