Parents shocked after school warns their child is overweight
Alex Butler's school had been measuring body mass index as part of the government's "Change for Life" campaign. It told the Butlers that their son Alex could face ill health and suggested lifestyle changes to help him lose weight.
When asked about his favourite foods and hobbies by ITV, Alex said:
“I like Apples, pears bananas and grapes and I like riding my bicycle without the stabilisers. “.
Alex’s father Kevin Butler said: “I’m extremely shocked I'm still trying to come to terms with it because I've always called him chunky monkey.
"I feel quite bad now that I've called him that. He isn't overweight he takes after me he's a big lad for his age."
Alex’s mother Karen Green said: "I felt that I let him down in a way I'm always very conscious of my own weight and I've struggled with that all my life so I've always made an effort to make sure that he eats healthily and gets plenty of exercise and I felt that I'd let him down."
Alex’s mum and dad have told him about the letter, but say they aren’t worried as he eats healthily and gets plenty of exercise.
