Yorkshire 'freedom fighter' released from jail in Iraq
Two British men - including one from Yorkshire - and an Irish man have been freed from jail in Iraq after being detained as they travelled home from fighting against the so-called Islamic State, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office has said.
Former soldier Joe Akerman who is from Halifax, Jac Holmes, and former Royal Irish Regiment soldier Joshua Molloy were incarcerated in a Kurdish-controlled area of northern Iraq after crossing a border with Syria.
It is understood the men, who are believed to have been fighting alongside the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), were freed last night.
